Preserving Mandingo Heritage in Canada

The United Mandingo Association of Canada (UMAC) was founded in 2017 as a non-profit federal organization to connect and unite the Mandingo people across Canada. Founded by visionary leader Varmuyan S. Sherif, UMAC brings together a community that traces its roots to the ancient Mali Empire.

“We are a collective of people who believe in Humanity, love and peace for all human beings, regardless the colour of your skin, or geographical location.”

Many UMAC members arrived in Canada through UNHCR refugee resettlement programs, fleeing civil conflicts in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, and Guinea. Today, UMAC serves as a bridge between preserving rich cultural traditions and building successful lives in Canada.
